Welcome to Island Crafters

We’ve Got a New Name (and We’re So Excited to Share It)

For a while now, you’ve known us as Hooking By The Ocean, the little online shop with the yarn, the bag-making bits, and the crochet hooks that always seemed to find their way into the right hands. That part of us isn’t changing. But we wanted a name with room to grow into.
We are now Island Crafters.

Why the Change?

Hooking By The Ocean was perfect for where we started — but it kept us boxed into one craft and one theme. We’ve been bringing you yarn, hooks, and bag-making accessories and tools for a long time now, and that foundation isn’t going anywhere. But we didn’t want a name that tied us to one theme alone, or to one craft alone, forever.
A name should hold room for everything you could become, not just where you began. Island Crafters does that. It’s bigger, it’s broader, and it still carries the heart of Trinidad & Tobago in every letter, because that’s where we live, where we craft, and where this whole story is rooted.

Family Roots

This shop has never been a one-woman job. It’s my brother and my husband, who show up to help with deliveries whenever we need an extra pair of hands. It’s my sister-in-law, whose beautiful handmade pieces we’ve been proud to showcase alongside our own. It’s my parents who funded this dream my mom had which I later executed. It’s everyone who’s lived with boxes stacked in the hallway and yarn turning up in places yarn has no business being. And it’s the grandkids, who love to “help”; mostly by pulling at the yarn and watching us chase after them to get it back.

Island Crafters carries all of that with it — built right here in Central Trinidad, by island hands, for island hands.

What Stays the Same

New name, same heart. You can still expect:
Free pickup in Cunupia
Weekend delivery scheduling via TTPost
Friendly, WhatsApp-based order coordination
The same care in every package that goes out our door

What’s Coming Next

This rebrand isn’t just a new name — it’s a step toward something bigger for us, and we can’t wait to share more as it unfolds.
In the meantime, we’re gearing up for an exciting 4-day pop-up event this July 19–22 at the Barakah Grounds Expo where Island Crafters will be set up alongside Abelina Studio and Asli Collection (hand crafted business). If you’re around, we’d love to see you there.

Thank You for Growing With Us

Every skein of yarn we’ve sold, every order packed with care, every person who’s tagged us in a finished project photo; that’s what got us here. Whether you’ve been with us since the very first ball of yarn or you’re just discovering us under this new name, thank you for being part of the Island Crafters story.

The name has changed. The mission hasn’t: helping island hands make beautiful things.
